About the Project
In 2021, the Village performed a community-wide roadway assessment that measured the condition of the pavement surface and subsurface. Souwanas Trail and Schuett Street were graded as two of the lowest scoring roads in the Village due to their failing roadway conditions.
The Village has almost completed improvements for these roads to address their conditions. Construction has included a popular reconstruction alternative called full-depth reclamation (FDR) and stabilization. Click the button below to learn more about this method and the proposed water and sewer improvements to the Village's underground infrastructure.

Three-Sided Structure Installation
This spring the three-sided box culvert was installed along the Souwanas Trail. Watch the video below for a bird's eye view at how it came together.
Funding
Souwanas Trail and Schuett Street are classified as federal aid routes, making them eligible for federal funding through the Federal Highway Administration's Surface Transportation Program (STP). The Village applied for a STP grant and was awarded the maximum $1.5 million to use toward pavement rehabilitation and sidewalk improvements.
